Released the same year as its famous title, writer-director Michael Radford readapted George Orwell's dystopian classic for the big screen. Starring John Hurt and featuring the last film performance by Richard Burton, shot by legendary cinematographer Roger Deakins, scored by '80s pop group Eurythmics, and bankrolled by Virgin Records mogul Richard Branson, Nineteen Eighty-Four impressed critics and audiences as a faithful take on Orwell's novel. In our first review of a fan requested movie, Brother Eric, Brother Kent, and Brother Lobster examine the messages, morals, and mechanics governing the "future" presented in the film, draw comparisons to real life and other speculative fiction, and attempt to define the term "Orwellian." But is the film itself doubleplusgood or does it deserve to be sent to Room 101? Listen and find out!
