From what I've heard, Rogue One is more of a commando/heist movie than one about a fighter squadron. Still looks good though.

If I heard correct it's supposed to be the "how did the Rebels steal the plans for the Death Star" correct?

That's what the rumors are. It'll be great. So long as they give it feel of the original trilogy.

Considering how the last movie got the Star Wars feel pretty damn good, I have full faith they can, I wonder how they will CGI-dance around certain people who will need to make an appearance in this one (Like I'd assume Captain Antilles and a Leia and/or Bail Organa appearance)

Who knows what they will do with characters that might need to make an appearance. I hope the movie ends right where a New Hope begins.

I think they can use Jimmy Smits (sp) for Bail Organa if they need to since it is 20 years past Revenge of the Sith and a Lil makeup can help with that if needed, they can do something else for Leia, kinda like they did when they lined up all the doctors for the end of the 50th celebration....

Or just sorta some back shots of Leia.
