In 1971, director William Friedkin created the first authentic police procedural starring Gene Hackman and Roy Scheider. The French Connection tells the story of New York detective Popeye Doyle as he obsessively pursues leads towards a huge heroin score. The film scored several Oscars, including ones for Hackman, Friedkin and Best Picture. But does the film earn those accolades or does it miss the train? MovieDude Eric, Kent & Lobster find out.
