In 1979, director Walter Hill tackled an adaptation of Sol Yurick's novel about the Warriors, the titular gang from Coney Island forced to fight their way home from the Bronx through the turf of rival gangs. At the time of its release, the film was panned by critics at the time and was the subject of controversy when showings of the film appeared to inspire gang-related violence and vandalism. However, The Warriors has since garnered praise and developed a loyal following, spawning video game and comic book spin-offs and talk of a remake. But does this cult classic earn its street cred or does it deserve to get wasted? MovieDude Eric, Kent and Jonolobster take to the streets to find out.
