Doctor Who: Series 8 Expectations

With series 8 bringing us a new Doctor and the return of what at best can be described as a companion with untapped potential, what kind of expectations do people have for the stories, the Doctor/Clara relationship, the undoing of the time war, etc?

I'm terrible, I've never got into Doctor Who... *waits for flogging*

To be honest, I haven't given it a fair chance, I'm a victim of the "feeling overwhelmed on where to start" issue.

I really want then to address the Time Lords being alive. They were use as Deus ex machina in the last episode, now I want to know the extend of their power on our "galaxy" for a lack of better term.

We brought up a point a few weeks ago about this, based on a statement by Mark Gatiss, that still resonates with me -- the Time Lords are essentially power-hungry jerks, in most instances, and the reason why our mad rogue went off on his own all those centuries ago. The absence of them (or as near as) in the 2005+ storylines allowed them to develop a mystique that, should they return to regular appearances, would be rendered irrelevant.

That said, I think the "Hunt for Gallifrey" will be some part of the series 8 arc (of there is one, fingers crossed), but if it becomes the crux of the latter half of the season, I wouldn't be surprised if there is an outcome that locks them away once again, perhaps for their own protection (or the rest of the universe's), and leaves that barrier intact.

I expect most of Gallifrey to end up locked away, but I kinda think a handful of Time Lords might slip through to cause mischief and mayhem.

What are everyone's recommendations for me to jump on? Where should I start?

Rose. Series 1 Episode 1. One series per day and you'll be set for the premier.
